STREET is just as much a meeting place as it is a market. Here, you can dine in the ecological restaurant, have a snack in the café, dance the night away, or enjoy a poetry reading. There’s a lot going on in and around the old garage down near the water in Stockholm as STREET opens for the season.
The Street market bubbles with life from the opening in March to the Christmas fair in December.
Something has happened at Hornstulls strand, a place that, two years ago, was littered with trash and pretty rough around the edges. Now it’s bubbling with life. The area, located in Stockholm’s very trendy Södermalm district, has become synonymous with Street.
Inspired by Camden Lock Market
John Higson, the man behind the project, is originally from Ireland, but now calls Stockholm home. With his distinct accent, he recounts how it all began.
“I discovered that many designers and artists were looking for a meeting place. At the same time, I wanted to create a platform where people could realize their dreams,†he says.
The market is a chance for young and upcoming Swedish designers to sell their stuff.
Since the spring of 2005, Street has really come into its own – with shopping of cause – a restaurant, a café, indoor and outdoor markets, café, clubs, exhibitions and festivals. Street has something for everone.
