The manor house was built in 1776 by Jakob Ramsell. Duke Carl Johan von Hermansson took over the Färna works at the beginning of the 19th century after a drawn out inheritance dispute. In 1857 the duke had the house enlarged and given its present stately appearance. Around the house are a beautiful park, a mausoleum and a gazebo.
Färna has been settled since the middle of the 16h century, perhaps even longer.
The iron works had modest beginnings in 1607 when it was owned by the crown.
At the beginning if the 19th century it was taken over by Duke Carl Johan von Hermansson, who became famed for his proposal that the old and feeble who could no longer contribute to production should be put to death. According to myth, the smiths of Färna were so enraged by this that they forged a necklace for the duke’s throat!
Chef of the year, 2007
The Manor House runs conference facilities with high class cuisine, outstanding wines, pleasant walks in hilly surroundings and a spa. It is worthy of note that Färna’s chef, Inga-Lena Eriksson, was awarded the title ‘Västmanland’s Chef of the Year’ in 2007.
