Surahammar Manor was built in 1856-58 by the owner of the Surahammar Works, Adolf Zethelius. He considered that the existing manor was too small and too modest. It was moved to the southern part of the estate where it is now situated and is painted pink.
Adolf Zethelius travelled a lot in England and was very inspired by English castles. This might be one of the reasons for the manor’s unusual appearance. Its style can be described as ‘classic with a touch of medieval’.
When the construction of the manor was completed and the final bill presented to the proprietor Zethelius, he is supposed to have said that had he known it would be so cheap, he would have built the manor twice its size!
From 1858 to 1984 the manor served as a residence for directors of the Surahammar Works. In 1984 the manor was sold to become a hotel and restaurant.
